Police Arrest Suspect After Fatal Stabbing in Lagos Market
A violent clash at Balogun Market on Lagos Island on Wednesday ended in tragedy, as one man lost his life and another was taken into police custody.
The victim, identified as Sodiq Ibrahim from Kogi State, was allegedly stabbed to death during a brawl by Ebuka Adindu, a trader from Abia State. Witnesses said the fight began as a scuffle among hoodlums before it escalated. In the process, Ebuka reportedly stabbed Ibrahim and later inflicted an injury on his own shoulder, which left him unconscious.
Police operatives quickly intervened, restored order in the market, and arrested the suspect. He is currently under medical care while being held in custody.
The Lagos State Police Command clarified that the incident was not connected to ethnic tensions, dismissing speculation about tribal clashes in the area. Normal commercial activities resumed at the market after calm was restored.
Authorities have assured that a full investigation is underway and that the suspect will be charged in court once cleared by doctors.
