PDP Confirms Damagum as National Chairman, Zoning Presidency to South in 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, August 25, 2025, confirmed Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum as its substantive National Chairman. This resolution came at the 102nd meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) held in Abuja. The council also resolved that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket will be zoned to the southern region of the country.
At the meeting, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri—chairman of the zoning committee—said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with governors, former governors, ministers, and other stakeholders, in keeping with the party’s constitution and its tradition of rotational justice .
Several notable party figures and governors were in attendance, including:
Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President and Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees
Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum
Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun State)
Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State)
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa State)
Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo State)

PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba described the resolutions as a “collective step to strengthen the party’s internal democracy and reposition it for victory in 2027”
The NEC urged members across the country to unite and work together to reclaim power in the next general elections.
