Osun 2026: Former Deputy Governor Alabi Joins APC Governorship Contest
Benedict Alabi, who served as deputy to former Osun State governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has formally declared his ambition to govern the state in 2026 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in Osogbo on Wednesday, Alabi explained that his decision followed months of consultation with stakeholders and party leaders. He added that he only stepped forward after confirming that Oyetola would not seek a return to the governorship race.
Alabi presented a detailed programme built around ten priorities, including youth employment, teacher recruitment, industrial investment, infrastructure development, and stronger security measures. According to him, the blueprint is designed to promote inclusive and sustainable growth across Osun.
He also dismissed reports that Oyetola had endorsed a particular aspirant, describing his former principal as a neutral figure and a unifying leader within the party.
With Alabi’s entry, the battle for the APC ticket is set to intensify ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election, as more contenders are expected to announce their ambitions in the coming weeks.
