The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaiye, has been commended for his unwavering commitment to both spiritual guidance and humanitarian services aimed at building a just and egalitarian society.
The President of Ilupeju Youth Development Association, who also doubles as the Oye Local Government Youth President, Engineer Femi Fagbemi, gave the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Bishop at his residence in Ado-Ekiti.
Engineer Fagbemi noted that Nigeria would have been a more peaceful and progressive nation if leaders in positions of authority could emulate the lifestyle of Bishop Ajakaiye, who not only contributes immensely to the development of society but also prioritises human capital development, irrespective of cost.
Applauding the Bishop’s philanthropy, Fagbemi said:
“I have come to appreciate you, my Lord Bishop, not only for shouldering the responsibility of thousands of less privileged people in our society but also for showing them love, hope, and a brighter future. When I heard about the case of my kinswoman, Precious Temitope Fagbemi from Ilomo Quarters, Ilupeju-Ekiti—who lost his father few years ago and whose mother contemplated withdrawing her from Holy Child Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti due to financial difficulties—I was overwhelmed with joy to learn that you personally took up her case and awarded her a scholarship from Senior Secondary School one(SSS 1) to when she will graduate from university.
“On behalf of her family, the good people of Ilupeju-Ekiti, and Ilupeju Youths, I sincerely thank you for this great honour. It is our fervent prayer that God Almighty will continue to grant you fresh grace, divine auction, and unending anointing to do more for humanity. Ilupeju Youths remain eternally grateful to you and the entire Catholic Diocese.”
In the same vein, the uncle of the beneficiary, Hon. Joseph Oluropo, who is also the Director of Media and Publicity of the Ilupeju Youth Development Association, narrated the ordeal of Temitope’s late father and the financial struggles of the family. He explained that but for the timely intervention of Bishop Ajakaiye, the girl’s dream of completing her education would have been cut short. He added that the family will remain grateful to the Bishop for rewriting the story of the young girl.
Responding, the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaiye gave all glory to God for stepping into Temitope’s situation through the support rendered. He stressed that whoever one can help is a neighbour, adding that the doctrine of Christ teaches believers to always care for others.
He further admonished Nigerian leaders to prioritise the welfare of the masses, insisting that such an approach remains the only antidote to poverty and a guarantee for peace in the land. The Bishop also reiterated that Catholic churches across the globe continue to do their best to meet the needs of the less privileged and bring succour to vulnerable communities.
