Popular entertainer Tunde Ednut has stirred debate in Nigeria’s political circles with a call for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and other opposition parties to unite behind former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ednut argued that Obi remains the only opposition figure with the credibility, nationwide support base, and momentum to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) and offer Nigerians a credible alternative.
“The coalition can only stand a real chance if they put aside individual ambitions and rally behind Peter Obi,” he said, stressing that anything short of unity would hand the APC an easy path to retain power.
His comments have since triggered widespread reactions online, with supporters and critics weighing in on whether the ADC coalition has the capacity to forge such an alliance. Some Nigerians agree that Obi represents the strongest candidate for the opposition, while others insist each party should field its own flag bearer to preserve political diversity.
Analysts say the debate underscores the recurring challenge of opposition unity in Nigeria, where rival interests and regional calculations have often weakened electoral coalitions.
As 2027 approaches, questions remain on whether opposition parties can overcome these divisions and build the kind of alliance that could seriously test the APC’s hold on power.
